Special Needs Teacher for Pupil Referral Unit, Swindon
Axcis Education are looking for a resilient and patient teacher to work in a PRU (Pupil referral unit) in Swindon from September. If you consider yourself a specialist with challenging behaviour and social, emotional disorders and see goals that can be achieved much further down the road, then this may be a position you are interested in. This role is to start in September and will initially be on a week by week basis, but should it prove to be a good fit not only for yourself but the unit too then the role will on a long term basis. It is full time and marking and planning are expected as standard.
Due to the nature of the pupils that are taught here and their backgrounds this role is not for any teacher that can not handle high pressure. You can expect a lot of resistance to learning her and any small victory in teaching the pupils something that they have understood and taken an interest in, is worth celebrating. Pupils that attend this unit are very disengaged with learning, so the challenge here is to gain their attention and slowly change their attitude toward school.
Of course you will not be alone in this task, you will be working with an extremely supportive team of teaching assistants and teachers that can impart their knowledge of the unit and share best practice. So if you are looking to make a difference and bring hope to children with little interest in school, please get in touch today.
The ideal candidate will;
- Hold a teaching qualification and UK QTS
- Have experience teaching a wide range of subjects ideally to secondary level
- Have previous experience teaching challenging behaviours or students with SEMH
- Proven track record of attainment and be able to differentiate learning material confidently
- Be a patient and resilient person, not phased by negative behaviours
- Have a holistic teaching approach
- Hold an enhanced DBS certificate on the update service, if you do not have one, we can help you apply for this.
If you are interested, then please contact Lee Harris at Axcis Education on 0117 373 6127.
This is a temporary position unless otherwise stated.
Please note: The details of this job are correct as of the start of the school closures. We anticipate that there will still be a need to fill this vacancy either on the expected timescale (as many of the schools we work with will remain open to support SEND/Keyworker children) or when schools re-open. We are therefore continuing to accept applications but please bear with us as there may be a delay on the listed start date due to the fact that the situation is continually evolving.
