Axcis are recruiting for support workers for an adult care home in Highbridge. The home provides support for ten adults with autism, Asperger's, challenging behaviours, mental health issues and learning disabilities. There are also two bungalows attached where residents are a bit more independent. The adults at the home require varying levels of support and staff will need to work in a person centred way. The residents are encouraged to do as much for themselves as they can and staff will need to promote independence, always giving the residents choice and control.
We're looking for staff experienced with working with people with learning disabilities particularly with autism, Asperger's and challenging behaviours. You could be an experienced support worker or have personal experience. Residents are supported with every day tasks such as washing, dressing, eating, health care appointments and social activities. You will need to support residents with personal care and manual handling. Some residents attend work placements and college courses and their goals and dreams are important.
The home is modern and furnished with all the modern conveniences. The home has great access to local bus and train services and it has a large garden which the residents use to play outdoor sports, games and host picnics and BBQ's. Residents have active social lives and they enjoy going to the cinema, bowling and shopping. Highbridge is near the ocean and residents regularly take trips down to the sea.
The home are looking for reliable and consistent staff that can ideally commit to full time hours. You can do earlies 8am-2pm, lates 3pm-10pm or long days 8am-8pm. Rotas come out a month in advance so you can know what shifts you're doing.
You will need to come in for a one hour registration meeting to be on our books. You need a valid DBS on the update service (enhanced child or enhanced child and adult); if you don't have a DBS on the update service you will need a new one. Unfortunately we don't pay for them anymore but we can send you a link to do a new one and a new one will cost £46. We will also need a minimum of two references. Those with NVQ Level 3 will be at an advantage as will those with experience of Makaton/PECS, personal care, manual handling.
This is a temporary position.
If you are interested, then please contact Charise Clarke at Axcis Education on 0117 373 6127 to book in a registration meeting.
This is a temporary position unless otherwise stated.
Please note: The details of this job are correct as of the start of the school closures. We anticipate that there will still be a need to fill this vacancy either on the expected timescale (as many of the schools we work with will remain open to support SEND/Keyworker children) or when schools re-open. We are therefore continuing to accept applications but please bear with us as there may be a delay on the listed start date due to the fact that the situation is continually evolving.
