Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 08:00?–?15:30
Salary: Paid to scale (National Teaching Union scale)
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary/secondary setting in Richmond. Working closely with class teachers and the SENCo, you will support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them achieve academic progress and develop resilience.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH profiles.
• Implement individual behaviour and coping strategies outlined in each pupil’s SEN plan.
• Assist teachers with lesson preparation, delivery, and differentiation.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, communicating observations to staff and parents.
• Foster a safe, inclusive classroom environment and promote positive peer interactions.
• Contribute to pastoral care duties, including morning and afternoon registrations and wellbeing check-ins.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (minimum grade C/4).
• Relevant experience supporting children with SEMH or other special educational needs.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply de-escalation techniques.
• DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable
• Level 2/3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning or SEN.
• First Aid/Paediatric CPR certification.
