Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary – Barking & Dagenham £100–£115 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | Dagenham Axcis Education is recruiting a calm, confident and relationship-focused SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Barking & Dagenham, supporting children who need additional help with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement with learning. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who understands that behaviour is often a form of communication. You’ll be working closely with pupils who may struggle with frustration, anxiety, dysregulation or maintaining focus, helping them feel safe, understood and ready to learn. The school is looking for someone who can combine a nurturing approach with clear boundaries and consistency — someone who can build trust without lowering expectations. About the Role - Supporting pupils with SEMH, emotional regulation and behavioural needs - Providing a mixture of 1:1, small-group and classroom support - Helping pupils recognise and manage their emotions - Supporting children during periods of dysregulation or challenging behaviour - Using positive reinforcement, predictable routines and clear expectations - Helping pupils re-engage with learning following difficult moments - Supporting English, Maths and wider classroom activities - Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider pastoral/SEND team - Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence About You We would particularly like to hear from candidates who: - Have previous experience as a SEMH TA, SEND TA, LSA, Behaviour Mentor or similar support professional - Have worked with children who display challenging behaviour or emotional regulation difficulties - Understand how to de-escalate situations calmly - Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries - Are patient, resilient and able to remain consistent - Can use initiative while following the school’s behaviour and SEND strategies - Hold a CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 qualification – desirable but not essential - Can commit to a full-time, long-term role The School & Location The role is based within a primary school in Dagenham, with good transport links from Barking, Chadwell Heath, Romford, Ilford and surrounding East London areas.
