Salary: £89+per day (depending on experience)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm (Term Time Only)

The Role:
Axcis Education is working in partnership with a mainstream primary school in Harrow to appoint a resilient and skilled SEND Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a Key Stage 2 pupil presenting with challenging behaviour. This is a full-time role starting in September 2025, ideal for someone with experience in behaviour management and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young learners.
The school has a supportive SEN team and is committed to providing consistent, nurturing support to children with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
Responsibilities:
Provide full-time 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with behavioural and emotional regulation needs
Implement strategies outlined in the pupil’s Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
Use de-escalation techniques, praise, and positive reinforcement to manage behaviour
Maintain clear boundaries and provide structure and consistency throughout the day
Build a trusting relationship with the pupil to support learning, regulation, and wellbeing
Monitor and report on behaviour incidents, triggers, and progress using school systems
Liaise regularly with the SENCO, class teacher, parents, and external professionals
Promote self-esteem, independence, and resilience through tailored interventions
Support the child both inside and outside of the classroom, including at break times

Ideal Candidate Profile:
Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour, SEMH, or trauma-informed approaches
Calm, consistent, and confident under pressure
Knowledge of strategies such as Zones of Regulation, emotion coaching, Team Teach, or PACE
Comfortable working independently with 1:1 pupils while taking direction from the class teacher and SENCO
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Willingness to engage in reflective practice and adapt approaches based on feedback
Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
Desirable but Not Essential:
Training in Team Teach or MAPA (Positive Handling)
Psychology, counselling, or youth work background
NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or Health and Social Care
Familiarity with safeguarding procedures and trauma-informed care
