Full-Time BSL Teaching Assistant – Deaf Resource Provision We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant to join the team, supporting students in Nursery and Reception within the Deaf Resource Provision. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young children with hearing impairments and complex needs, helping to shape their early learning experiences in a nurturing and inclusive environment. About the Role: As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with two students in the morning and four students in the afternoon. These children have little to no spoken language, so your primary role will be to model clear English and BSL signs, creating an accessible and engaging learning environment that fosters language development. You will be supporting students individually and in small groups, working closely with the class teacher and other support staff to implement personalized learning strategies tailored to each child's needs. Key Responsibilities: Provide direct support to students with hearing impairments in Nursery and Reception. Model clear English and BSL signs to aid communication and language acquisition. Work collaboratively with the class teacher and other professionals to deliver engaging lessons and activities. Support students with additional complex needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in school life. Maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment, adapting your approach as needed to meet each child's individual requirements. About You: The ideal candidate will have experience working with young children, particularly those with hearing impairments or complex needs. Proficiency in BSL is essential, along with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students who are developing their language skills. Experience in a similar role within a Deaf Resource Provision or working with children who have special educational needs would be highly beneficial. We are looking for someone who is patient, compassionate, and ready to make a positive impact from the outset. Requirements: Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL). Experience working with young children, ideally in an educational or care setting. A strong understanding of supporting children with hearing impairments and additional needs. Ability to start as soon as possible. If you are passionate about supporting young learners and are eager to contribute to their educational journey, we would love to hear from you.
