Axcis are pleased to be working with a primary SEND school in Cardiff who are looking to recruit someone experienced in working with children with ASD. You will be working in small groups providing general in class support. You will need to be able to establish a good working relationship with the children very quickly. The role starts in September, is three days a week and has potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
A lot of the students are at risk of exclusion and presents with very challenging behaviour so resilience is a must. The right candidate will be an inventive and positive TA who has experience working with children with ASD. Routines ar every important to these children and those experienced in using makaton will be at an advantage as many are non verbal and struggle with communication.
The SEND school has a fantastic support structure and offers excellent resources for all staff that work there. You must have a calm nature and ability to de-escalate situations as sometimes the children present with challenging behaviour. Building rapport quickly will be important and you will be a positive role model.
