Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Learning Support Assistant – SEND School (Exeter)
Axcis Education is working in partnership with a warm, inclusive SEND school in Exeter to recruit a dedicated full-time Learning Support Assistant. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and wants to work in a setting where relationships, wellbeing, and trust come first.
You’ll support a small class of no more than eight pupils, working closely with an experienced class teacher to deliver personalised learning, emotional reassurance, and consistent positive support.
About the School
The school provides specialist education for approximately 120 children and young people aged 6–18. Many pupils have EHCPs linked to SEMH needs, autism, and high levels of anxiety, and some have experienced prolonged periods out of education.
As a result, the school prioritises:
Emotional wellbeing and safety
Predictable routines and trusted relationships
A calm, patient, and trauma-informed approach
This is a highly supportive environment where staff work together to help pupils re-engage with learning at their own pace.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
Patient, nurturing, and adaptable, able to support learners across mixed ability levels
A calm and reassuring presence for pupils who may feel anxious or withdrawn
Creative and positive, with an interest in outdoor learning and practical activities
A team player who brings consistency, commitment, and empathy to their work
Experience with SEND, SEMH, or youth support is beneficial, but the right attitude and mindset are essential.
The Role
Full-time: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Long-term opportunity, offering vital consistency for pupils
Pay: £103 per day (PAYE)
Location: Exeter (well served by public transport; no on-site parking)
This is more than a classroom role — it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of young people who need stability, encouragement, and understanding.
