SEN Teaching Assistant ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder).
Axcis Education is seeking a teaching assistant who specialise working with children who are on the autistic spectrum disorder. To work with primary schools in Swindon on a part time basis (2/3 days a week). Initially this will be on an ad-hoc basis, but with a view to go long term. If you have experience in a school setting and working with pupils on the spectrum, including disorders such as Asperger's please get in touch.
We are looking for people that possess the skills needed to manage such pupils and not only keep them continuously learning and reaching their individual goals, but also make sure that they maintain healthy relationships with other pupils. You will need to be resilient, patient and show that you can push and engage them in their learning in a positive and flexible manner.
Swindon is home to a wide selection of primary schools, all with their own quirks and challenges, along with pupils who have varying degrees of autism. In most cases, work will be full time, term time but there are occasions where support required for the pupil is only needed on a part time basis such as mornings only.
Swindon has good public transport links, so if you don't drive, it's not a problem, we can still work with you (providing the distance and time works!)
The ideal candidate will have;
- Experience working with children in any format
- Experience working with special needs such as autism and Asperger's
- Relevant qualifications and/or training such as Team Teach training (although this is not essential)
- A can do attitude and willingness to help a school in anyway they can
- An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service (if you don't have one, we can help you apply for one)
- Previous teaching assistant experience is also desirable but not essential
If you are interested, then please contact Lee Harris at Axcis Education on 0117 373 6127.
This is a temporary position unless otherwise stated.
Please note: The details of this job are correct as of the start of the school closures. We anticipate that there will still be a need to fill this vacancy either on the expected timescale (as many of the schools we work with will remain open to support SEND/Keyworker children) or when schools re-open. We are therefore continuing to accept applications but please bear with us as there may be a delay on the listed start date due to the fact that the situation is continually evolving.

All staff will be subject to our stringent vetting procedures, which include an enhanced DBS, full work history, references and a face-to-face interview.
