Axcis Education is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist all-through SEND school in Frome. This long-term, full-time Teaching Assistant opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND, helping them overcome barriers to learning and thrive both in the classroom and beyond.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will become an integral part of a dedicated team delivering personalised education. Every day is different, and you will help students develop academically while also encouraging communication, independence, emotional wellbeing and essential life skills that prepare them for the future.
This Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships and understands that progress looks different for every learner. The school provides a nurturing environment where pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and independence through creative, practical and engaging learning experiences.
Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant:
• Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups throughout the school day
• Assisting children and young people with a range of SEND, including autism, speech and language needs, moderate learning difficulties and associated communication needs
• Working alongside teachers to adapt learning activities to meet individual Education, Health and Care Plans
• Encouraging pupils to develop independence, social interaction and confidence in both classroom and practical learning environments
• Supporting emotional regulation and promoting positive behaviour using consistent and nurturing approaches
• Assisting with communication, sensory activities and structured routines that enable pupils to access learning successfully
• Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide holistic support
• Helping create a safe, inclusive and engaging environment where every pupil is valued and encouraged to achieve their personal best
The Ideal Teaching Assistant Will:
• Have professional experience working in education as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or similar role, or personal experience supporting individuals with SEND, autism, SEMH or complex needs
• Candidates from nursing, care, support work, residential childcare, youth work or other caring professions are encouraged to apply as transferable skills are highly valued
• Be confident supporting pupils with a wide range of educational, communication, emotional and behavioural needs
• Be passionate about inclusive education and committed to helping every pupil reach their individual potential
• Enjoy working as part of a collaborative team while building positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
