Axcis are currently recruiting for support workers to work in the residential unit at a specialist SEND school that has been rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. The school is situated in Midsommer Norton close to Radstock. The school regularly come to us for on the day supply cover. The residential home is only open from Monday-Friday. The home houses 11 pupils and the school need support staff to work in the mornings, evenings and to do sleep ins and waking nights. The majority of the residents have autistic spectrum conditions so routine, structure and consistency are important to them. Sometimes the present with challenging behaviour. The students stay at the school during the week as they find adjusting from weekend life to school life very difficult and it usually takes them a day to settle in to the school week. We are looking for staff who are flexible, compassionate and patient. You will need to understand how to work with people with special needs. You could be an experienced support worker or you could have personal experience. Perhaps you've worked with adults with learning disabilities or been a carer for the elderly and you have transferable skills. The residents are aged 3-19 years old. The children study the national curriculum so GCSE's, BTECS, ASDAN and life skills. Subjects focused on are literacy, numeracy, ICT, Art, DT and RE. There is a strong focus on supporting the students to find employment after school and the school has a project that focuses on providing the students with the skills, experience, knowledge and confidence to find employment after leaving the school. The school offers therapies including speech, music, drama, physiotherapy and occupational. There is a large and modern gym, a well equipped playground and a sensory room on site. Pay rates are great and we pay every week, a week in arrears. To work for us you will need to come in for a one hour registration meeting, you will need a valid DBS on the update service and a minimum of two references. This is a temporary position. We anticipate that there will still be a need to fill this vacancy either on the expected timescale (as many of the schools we work with will remain open to support SEND/Keyworker children) or when schools re-open.
