SEND Teaching Assistant – Year 1 (1:1 Support)
We are working with a warm, welcoming, and nurturing primary school located within walking distance of North Ealing Station. The school is committed to providing an inclusive environment where all pupils are supported to succeed, both academically and emotionally.
The Role
This is a full-time 1:1 support role working with a Year 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The pupil displays highly challenging and disruptive behaviour, so this role requires a confident, resilient, and experienced Teaching Assistant who is comfortable working in a fast-paced and sometimes demanding environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing behaviour, building trust, and supporting the pupil to engage positively with learning.
Key Responsibilities
-Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD and SEMH needs
-Implement effective behaviour management strategies to support highly disruptive behaviour
-Support the pupil’s engagement, focus, and access to the curriculum
-Work closely with the class teacher and wider staff team
-Help create a structured, safe, and consistent learning environment
-Support emotional regulation and social development

-Experienced in working with challenging behaviour in a school setting
-Calm, resilient, and able to remain composed under pressure
-Firm but fair, with a consistent approach to behaviour management
-Patient, understanding, and nurturing
-Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
-A proactive and collaborative team player
Requirements
-Previous experience supporting children with SEND in a UK school setting – essential
-Strong experience working with ASD, SEMH, and challenging behaviour – essential
-Confident in implementing behaviour management strategies
-Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
-Ability to remain consistent, reliable, and committed in a demanding role
