Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support (ASD & Speech and Language Needs)
Location: Mainstream Primary School – Wembley Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm (4:30pm finish on Tuesdays) Start Date: September 2025 Position Type: Long-term placement Axcis Education is currently working with a vibrant and inclusive mainstream primary school that is seeking a skilled and patient SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and speech and language difficulties. This is a rewarding, full-time opportunity ideal for someone passionate about making a meaningful impact in a child’s school experience. Key Responsibilities: • Provide consistent 1:1 support for a child with ASD and communication needs across the school day. • Implement and adapt strategies to support speech, language and social development in collaboration with school staff and external professionals. • Communicate effectively using a range of approaches tailored to the pupil’s needs. • Assist with the delivery of personalised learning programmes and monitor progress. • Support the child’s inclusion in classroom and school life, promoting independence and confidence. • Deliver personal care with sensitivity and professionalism as needed. • Work closely with class teachers, SENCO and other support staff to ensure a holistic and consistent approach. The ideal candidate will have: • A Level 3 or higher UK qualification in any subject. • At least 6 months’ experience in a UK primary school setting. • Strong understanding of the needs of children with ASD and speech and language difficulties. • Confidence and flexibility to work across all primary age groups. • A high standard of written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly in diverse contexts. • A calm, patient and nurturing manner with a proactive and positive attitude. • Willingness to provide personal care where required. Desirable: • Experience with alternative communication methods (e.g. PECS, Makaton). • Additional SEND training (ASD awareness, de-escalation, etc.) This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and forward-thinking school through a dedicated SEND agency that values its candidates.
