Are you a youth worker wanting to transition into teaching assistant work? A lot of our TA's used to be youth workers and their experience working with children with SEMH and challenging behaviours make them perfect for working in pupil referral units and alternative provisions. Axcis are pleased to be working with a range of pupil referral units in Lawrence Weston who are looking to recruit youth workers. If you are calm, patient and resilient you have the skills that we're looking for.
The pupil referral units we work with are easily accessible and are welcoming and supportive environments to work in. They use a lot of therapeutic approaches to support the children to become confident and grow into happy young people capable of self regulating their emotions and becoming positive members of society. They promote access to education for all children and you could be working with children with diagnosis of social emotional and behavioural difficulties, oppositional defiance disorder, attachment disorder, ADHD and pathological demand avoidance.
If you are looking to make a positive change in the world then this is your chance. A lot of these children have had difficult home lives and this is their last chance to get an education. You must have a calm nature and ability to de-escalate situations. We are looking for someone who is unfazed by challenging behaviour and those trained in Team Teach and MAPA would be at an advantage. These children need a positive role model and the right candidate will be resilient, empathetic and understanding.

We are therefore continuing to accept applications but please bear with us as there may be a delay on the listed start date due to the fact that the situation is continually evolving.
