Are you a youth worker wanting to transition into teaching assistant work? A lot of our TA's used to be youth workers and their experience working with children with mental health issues and challenging behaviours make them perfect for working in pupil referral units and alternative provisions. The school hours are really lovely 8:30-3:30pm and we pay weekly in arrears. Axcis are pleased to be working with a range of PRUs (pupil referral units) in Fishponds, Bristol who are looking to recruit youth workers. If you are calm, patient and resilient then you have the skills that we've been looking for.
The PRUs (pupil referral units) we work with are popular with many of our staff and are supportive environments. They use a lot of therapeutic approaches to support the children to become confident and grow into capable young adults taking responsibility for their own behaviour. You could be working with children with diagnosis of social emotional and behavioural difficulties such as oppositional defiance disorder, attachment disorder, ADHD and pathological demand avoidance.
Many of the children have had difficult upbringings and a lot of their behaviours are reactions to this. If you have training and certificates in MAPA and Team Teach then you will be at an advantage. For us to put you forward for this role you will need to register with us which takes about an hour. We're looking for youth workers who are able to remain totally unfazed and calm in the face of challenging behaviours.
Axcis offers competitive rates of pay and candidate care which is second to none. If you're looking for a supply agency that offers work in special schools and/or alternative provisions then Axcis is the recruitment agency for you. Axcis offers competitive rates of pay, a fantastic referral system (which pays up to £250 for referring your friends or family members to us) as well as useful SEND resources in our giveaways (see our Facebook page for more information on this!)
This is a temporary role.
If you are interested, then please contact Charise Clarke at Axcis Education on 0117 373 6127.
This is a temporary position unless otherwise stated.
Please note: The details of this job are correct as of the start of the school closures. We anticipate that there will still be a need to fill this vacancy either on the expected timescale (as many of the schools we work with will remain open to support SEND/Keyworker children) or when schools re-open. We are therefore continuing to accept applications but please bear with us as there may be a delay on the listed start date due to the fact that the situation is continually evolving.
Axcis is an equal opportunities employer. The company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
All staff will be subject to our stringent vetting procedures, which include an enhanced DBS, full work history, references and a face-to-face interview.
Axcis Education is an employment agency offering temporary supply work for daily, short-term and long-term assignments in addition to permanent positions.
