We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist education setting in Widnes, starting in late September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in education, gain valuable experience supporting pupils with additional needs and make a genuine difference every day. Your Role As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide pupils with the encouragement, structure and individual support they need to access their education. You may support pupils on a 1:1 or small-group basis, helping them engage with lessons, develop communication and social skills, manage their emotions and build greater independence. Your responsibilities will include: • Supporting teachers with lessons, activities and classroom routines • Providing 1:1 and small-group support based on individual pupil needs • Helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and communication skills • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour • Preparing learning resources and assisting with practical activities • Creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment • Encouraging pupils to participate in educational and social activities • Working closely with teachers and other professionals to support individual targets and progress • Providing consistent encouragement and positive reinforcement throughout the school day The role can be incredibly rewarding, with the opportunity to build strong relationships with pupils and celebrate their progress, whether that's developing a new skill, becoming more independent or simply growing in confidence. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic about working with children and young people and who understands the importance of a patient, consistent and nurturing approach. Previous experience within education is beneficial, but not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who have transferable experience from care, support work, youth work, residential settings or other roles involving children and young people. You should be: • Patient, compassionate and resilient • Confident building positive relationships with pupils • Adaptable and willing to support a range of individual needs • Calm and consistent when managing challenging situations • Enthusiastic about helping young people achieve their potential • A strong team player with a willingness to learn and develop • Experience With Additional Needs Experience supporting pupils with additional needs would be advantageous. This may include working with children or young people with: Autism (ASD) ADHD SEMH needs Challenging behaviour Communication and interaction difficulties Complex learning needs Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) Physical or sensory needs However, relevant experience is not essential.
