Job Title: Teaching Assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism & Communication Support – Primary School – Tower Hamlets
From £100 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start
Axcis are working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Tower Hamlets who are seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with autism, speech and language needs, social communication difficulties, ADHD and learning difficulties. The school has a strong SEND provision and is looking for someone who can provide calm, consistent and personalised support to help pupils access learning and build confidence throughout the school day.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to support pupils both in the classroom and through targeted 1:1 or small-group interventions. The role would suit someone who is patient, proactive and confident adapting their approach to meet individual needs.
The school is based in Tower Hamlets and is easily accessible by Tube, DLR, Overground and local bus routes, with links from Newham, Hackney, Barking, Stratford and surrounding East London areas.
About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across the primary phase who require additional help with communication, emotional regulation, attention, confidence and access to learning.
You will:
• Support pupils with SEND within mainstream classroom settings
• Work 1:1 and in small groups with children who have autism, ADHD, speech and language needs or learning difficulties
• Use visual supports, now-and-next boards, structured routines and positive reinforcement strategies
• Support pupils with transitions, communication, emotional regulation and social interaction
• Assist the class teacher with differentiated activities and adapted resources
• Help pupils develop independence, confidence and positive learning habits
• Follow EHCP targets and individual support plans under the guidance of the SENCO
• Work as part of a supportive team to create a calm, inclusive classroom environment
What We’re Looking For
• Previous experience supporting children with SEND or additional needs
• Experience with autism, speech and language needs, ADHD, SEMH or communication difficulties would be highly desirable
• A calm, patient and nurturing approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Confidence using visual supports, PECS, Makaton or structured routines would be beneficial
• Good classroom awareness and willingness to use initiative
• Reliability, consistency and a genuine passion for inclusive education
• Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term role from September
