Job Title: Teaching Assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant – SEMH & Behaviour Support – Secondary School – Barking & Dagenham
From £100 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | Immediate / September Start
Axcis are supporting a well-led secondary school in Barking & Dagenham who are looking to appoint a resilient and confident SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH, ADHD and behaviour-related needs.
The school has a strong pastoral structure, clear behaviour expectations and a leadership team who understand the importance of consistency and positive relationships. This role would suit someone who can remain calm under pressure, build rapport quickly and help young people re-engage with learning.
The site is easily accessible via public transport and also offers parking for staff.
About the Role
You will be supporting pupils across KS3 and KS4 who may need additional help with focus, regulation, confidence and behaviour. Some pupils may have struggled in mainstream lessons and require a consistent adult who can help them feel supported while maintaining clear boundaries.
You will:
• Support pupils with SEMH, ADHD and challenging behaviour in lessons
• Work 1:1 and in small groups to encourage engagement and progress
• Use de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour approaches
• Support transitions, routines and unstructured parts of the school day
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the SENCO

• Experience supporting SEMH, ADHD or challenging behaviour
• Backgrounds in school support, youth work, mentoring or sports coaching are welcomed
• Calm, consistent and confident communication style
• Ability to set boundaries while remaining supportive and approachable
• Resilience, patience and a genuine interest in helping young people succeed
• Full-time availability and long-term commitment
