SEND Teaching Assistant – KS1 (1:1 Support)

The Role
This is a rewarding full-time position supporting a KS1 pupil (Year 1) on a 1:1 basis. The pupil has Autism (ASD), SEMH needs, and some complex behaviours, and is high-functioning.
The school is looking for someone who can strike the right balance between being firm and consistent with boundaries, while also being bubbly, positive, and caring in their approach. Building a strong, trusting relationship will be key to supporting both the child’s learning and emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities
-Provide 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with ASD and SEMH needs
-Implement clear and consistent behaviour management strategies
-Support the pupil’s engagement, emotional regulation, and access to learning
-Work closely with the class teacher and wider staff team
-Create a structured, safe, and positive learning environment
-Promote the pupil’s social skills, confidence, and wellbeing

-Experienced supporting children with SEMH needs
-Bubbly, energetic, and positive, with a nurturing approach
-Calm under pressure and able to de-escalate challenging situations
-A strong relationship-builder with pupils and staff

Requirements
-Previous experience supporting children with SEND in a UK school setting
-Experience with ASD, SEMH, and/or challenging behaviour
-Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies
-Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
