Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Axcis Education are working with a fantastic specialist SEND school in Poole, Dorset, who are seeking a full-time Specialist SEMH & ASC Teaching Assistant to join their team from May 2026. Pay: £95–£100 per day This well-resourced and highly supportive school caters for primary-aged pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom also have Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Pupils may attend on either a short-term or long-term basis and are supported to successfully access learning in a structured, nurturing environment. You will be joining a superb teaching team and an experienced group of Teaching Assistants who are passionate about making a genuine difference. The school is widely regarded as a positive, inclusive and supportive place to work, with strong leadership and a collaborative ethos. The Role • Supporting primary-aged pupils with SEMH and ASC needs • Providing 1:1 and small group support • Acting as a positive role model, mentor and daily support • Promoting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies • De-escalating challenging situations calmly and effectively • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils The Ideal Candidate • Previous experience working with children with SEND, ideally as a Teaching Assistant • Experience supporting SEMH and/or ASC pupils • Calm, resilient and confident managing challenging behaviour • Compassionate, patient and empathetic • Creative and flexible in their approach to learning support • GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English (essential) • Degree-level education (desirable) This is a full-time role starting in May 2026, continuing for the remainder of the academic year, with the potential for longer-term opportunities.
