SEMH Teaching Assistant | Behaviour Support | Poole, Dorset
A specialist SEMH school in Poole is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from March 2026. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom may also present with ASC, ADHD, or additional SEND needs.
This role is ideal for candidates who are confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and passionate about making a genuine difference in a structured, therapeutic school environment. The school uses a relationship-based and trauma-informed approach, focusing on emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and re-engagement in learning.
Candidates with experience in SEMH, behaviour support, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, or alternative provision are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group SEMH support to pupils
Support emotional regulation and implement positive behaviour strategies
Use de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches
Assist with classroom learning and structured interventions
Build consistent, professional relationships with pupils
Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and pastoral staff
Support pupils during transitions and less structured parts of the school day
Candidate Requirements:
Experience working with SEMH, SEND, ASC, ADHD, or behavioural needs
Calm, patient, and resilient approach
Strong behaviour management and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to safeguarding and ongoing professional development
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
