Job Title: Teaching Assistant SEND
JOB LOCATION:
Skelmersdale
Axcis Education are delighted to be working with a large SEND school in Skelmersdale, which is currently seeking Teaching Assistants to join their team in September 2025. There are both full-time and part-time positions available. The standard working hours are 8.30am to 3.30pm. Permanent contracts may be offered to candidates who thrive in their roles.
The school supports students aged 11 to 18 with a range of additional needs. The role will primarily involve working with pupils with autism across the spectrum, as well as those with learning disabilities and complex needs. Supporting with personal care will be part of your daily responsibilities. This role would be well-suited to individuals from a care work background, due to the nature of the students’ needs.
This well-regarded SEND school was rated ‘Good’ in its most recent OFSTED inspection. Class sizes are small, with frequently less than 10 pupils per class. The school also benefits from excellent facilities, such as multiple sensory rooms and outdoor spaces. A large on-site car park is available, as well as public transport links within walking distance of the school
A successful Teaching Assistant will have the following:
• Experience working in a special school or care setting
• Knowledge of severe learning disabilities and profound and multiple learning disabilities
• Experience supporting children or adults with these needs
• Training or experience in non-verbal communication methods (e.g. PECS, Makaton), hoisting, and manual handling (desirable)
• A willingness to support with personal care
• A proactive, enthusiastic, and caring attitude
• Reliability and consistency
Pay starts from £13.69 per hour. If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with complex needs and are looking for a rewarding role within a supportive and inclusive school community, we would love to hear from you.
