Teaching Assistant – SEMH / Behaviour Support Location: Blackburn Contract: Full-time (8:45am-3:15 pm working hours) Salary: Competitive rate starting from £89 per day, dependant on experience Here at Axcis Education, we are seeking a dedicated full-time Teaching Assistant to work within a Pupil Referral Unit in Blackburn, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours. The school has small classroom sizes and there is a big focus on extra-curricular activities, with lots of opportunities to get involved with. The school is rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted! This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with backgrounds in: • Youth work or mentoring • The police or armed forces • Social care or community work • Or those with experience in special education or behaviour support As a Teaching Assistant, you will be required to act as a role model, conducting calm and respectful interactions. You will also be required to use de-escalation strategies and restorative approaches to build trust and resilience. This can be a very rewarding role and no two days will be the same. We are looking for somebody who has: • A minimum of 6 months professional or personal experience in a relevant field OR - a certified qualification in a relevant area- education, psychology, drama etc • A can-do attitude and desire to make a difference with the children they are supporting • Good communication and teamwork skills • An enhanced DBS check (we can guide you through this process if you do not already have one) Experience working with young people who have SEMH needs is desirable, but not essential — full training and ongoing professional development will be provided.
