Job Title: Teaching Assistant Primary
Are you ready to make a real difference for children who need extra support? We are looking for a warm, kind and patient full-time Teaching Assistant to join a caring primary school in Ilminster. You will work with primary-aged pupils with SEMH, autism or learning disabilities, helping them access lessons with confidence and dignity.
Why this school stands out:
• The school was rated Good in its most recent inspection by Ofsted with good marks for quality of education, behaviour, personal development and leadership.
• It is a community-focused school that values inclusion: children from many backgrounds are welcomed, and staff work to support every child’s strengths.
• The school cares about the “whole child”: alongside academic learning there is strong emphasis on social and emotional development — children are known to feel safe, supported and part of a respectful, supportive community.
The role:
• Full time: 8.30am – 3.30pm, Monday to Friday
• Hourly rate: £13.70 per hour
• Start ASAP with opportunity for permanent contract following a 16-week settling-in period
• You will support children with SEMH, autism and learning disabilities in mainstream classes, and may be required to offer personal care or additional support as needed
We’re looking for someone who:
• Is calm, caring, patient and empathetic — someone who truly enjoys working with children and wants to help them thrive
• Has a natural ability to build trust and offer reassurance to vulnerable pupils, helping them feel safe and included
• Is reliable, flexible and able to work as part of a supportive team
• Has experience working with young people and/or in challenging environments and is confident managing behaviour
What you’ll gain:
• A rewarding, meaningful role where you help children with additional needs learn, grow, and feel included
• A supportive, inclusive school community that values respect, care and teamwork
• Stability, purpose, and the chance to make a real difference every day
This role is challenging — but deeply rewarding. If you believe in helping children shine and you have the compassion to support those who need extra care, we’d love to hear from you.
