Teaching Assistant (SEND) – Specialist School Location: St Helens Start Date: Immediate or October 2026 Contract: Full-Time or Part-Time | Long-Term | Term Time Only SEND Teaching Assistant – Immediate & October Starts Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? A well-established specialist SEND school in St Helens is looking for caring and dedicated Teaching Assistants to join their team on a long-term basis, with immediate and October start dates available. The school supports pupils aged 4–14 with a wide range of needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome and complex learning and medical needs. This is a varied role where you’ll work as part of a supportive specialist team and help pupils develop academically, socially and independently. The Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will: • Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs • Support pupils in the classroom and across the wider school environment • Deliver learning activities and interventions under the guidance of teaching staff • Encourage communication, emotional regulation, independence and social development • Adapt activities and resources to support different learning needs • Support pupils with sensory, physical and personal care needs where required • Work alongside teachers, therapists and other specialist professionals • Help create a safe, structured and inclusive environment • Celebrate and support pupils' individual progress and achievements What We're Looking For We're keen to hear from candidates who are: • Caring, patient and nurturing • Passionate about working with children with SEND • Resilient and adaptable • Confident building positive relationships with pupils • Comfortable working as part of a wider team • Committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing Experience supporting children or vulnerable individuals in schools, SEN settings, care, childcare, youth work or similar environments would be beneficial but is not essential.
