SEND Teacher – Autism Special School – Havering £180–£260 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start Axcis are working with a specialist SEND school in Havering who are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND Teacher to teach pupils across KS1 and KS2 from September. The successful teacher will work with pupils following Year 3 and Year 4 learning pathways, including children with autism who are preverbal or non-speaking. Pupils require highly differentiated teaching, predictable routines and communication support tailored to their individual needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for a qualified teacher who understands how to create engaging, accessible lessons for pupils with complex communication and learning needs. The school supports pupils from Reception through to post-16 and provides individual, small-group and classroom-based support. About the SEND Teacher Role You will plan and deliver a highly differentiated curriculum for KS1 and KS2 pupils, adapting learning around individual communication, sensory and developmental needs. Your responsibilities will include: • Teaching pupils working across Year 3 and Year 4 learning pathways • Planning highly differentiated and accessible lessons • Supporting autistic pupils who are preverbal or non-speaking • Using Now and Next boards, visual timetables and structured routines • Adapting teaching around pupils’ EHCP outcomes and individual targets • Promoting communication, engagement and independence • Using practical, sensory and play-based approaches where appropriate • Creating a calm, predictable and supportive classroom environment • Monitoring progress from each pupil’s individual starting point • Working closely with teaching assistants and multidisciplinary professionals • Communicating effectively with families, therapists and senior leaders • Maintaining strong safeguarding and professional standards What We’re Looking For • Qualified Teacher Status • Experience teaching pupils across KS1 or KS2 • Previous experience within a special school or specialist SEND provision • Strong experience supporting autistic pupils • Confidence teaching pupils who are preverbal or non-speaking • Experience using Now and Next boards and visual communication strategies • Ability to plan from individual developmental and academic starting points • Understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning outcomes • A creative, patient and adaptable teaching style • Strong classroom leadership and team-management skills • A calm and emotionally resilient approach • Full-time availability from September • Commitment to a long-term teaching position This is an excellent opportunity for a SEND Teacher who wants to deliver meaningful, personalised learning within a supportive specialist setting.
