Teaching Assistant / Support Worker – PMLD Secondary School | Specialist PMLD Setting | Term-Time Only Pay: £90–£100 per day (depending on experience) Start: Flexible | Ongoing Working Pattern: • Term-Time Only • Full-Time or Part-Time options available • Monday to Friday (flexibility considered) We are seeking a compassionate and committed Teaching Assistant or Support Worker to work in a specialist secondary school supporting pupils with PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties). This role is particularly well suited to support workers or individuals with care experience who are looking to transition into term-time-only work within a secondary school setting. The role involves personal care, manual handling, and hoisting, delivered with dignity, respect, and a strong focus on pupil wellbeing. About the Role As a Teaching Assistant / Support Worker in a secondary school PMLD setting, you will: • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with PMLD • Support pupils with personal care needs, including toileting and hygiene, in line with individual care plans • Carry out manual handling and hoisting safely, following training and risk assessments • Support the delivery of personalised, age-appropriate learning activities within a secondary school curriculum • Promote pupils’ communication, engagement, and emotional wellbeing • Encourage independence and life skills appropriate to pupils’ abilities • Work closely with secondary school teachers, therapists, and support staff • Help maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive secondary school environment About the Secondary School The school is a specialist secondary school for pupils with PMLD, where everything is centred on helping young people feel safe, respected, and engaged in learning. Teaching, care, and support are carefully tailored to meet the complex needs of pupils with PMLD. The secondary school places high importance on personal care, wellbeing, and dignity, alongside strong expectations for engagement and progress. Staff work collaboratively within a supportive team culture built on respect, teamwork, diversity, and clear communication.
