About the Role
Axcis Education is delighted to be working in partnership with a vibrant mainstream primary school in Southall, West London, to recruit a committed and nurturing teaching assistant for a full-time, long-term position.
You will be working 1:1 with a Key Stage 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The child is bright and inquisitive, thriving with consistency and structure but requiring support with emotional regulation and managing transitions. This role offers a unique opportunity to build a strong, trusting relationship and have a lasting, positive impact on a young learner’s life.
This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and looking to contribute meaningfully in a school that values child-centred support.
Key Responsibilities
-Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD, focusing on emotional regulation and engagement
-Follow an individualised learning plan in collaboration with the class teacher, SENCO, and external specialists
-Use visual aids, routines, and positive behaviour strategies to guide and support the child
-Assist during class lessons, transitions, and unstructured times such as break and lunch
-Promote emotional literacy and peer interaction where appropriate
-Record and monitor progress, contributing to review meetings and parent updates
-Maintain a calm and focused learning environment, proactively identifying and managing triggers
What We’re Looking For
-Experience supporting children with ASD or additional needs in a school setting
-Calm, consistent, and patient approach, particularly when managing challenging behaviour
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with staff, parents, and professionals
-Familiarity with PECS, now/next boards, sensory breaks, or similar tools is beneficial
-A strong commitment to inclusive education and breaking down barriers to learning
-Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
Relevant SEN training or qualifications are desirable, but not essential — the school is happy to support training for the right candidate
