Support Workers for child with PICA/Autism: Bristol - Bristol - Role: School Support Staff Jobs

Job Title: Support Workers for child with PICA/Autism: Bristol
Axcis are seeking to recruit 2-1 support workers to work with a nine year old child with Autism and PICA. The child is nine years old and can present with very challenging behaviour; if you have Team Teach or MAPA training you will be at an advantage. Support workers will need to be very patient, unfazed by challenging behaviour and good at de-escalation techniques as well as recognising triggers. As the child constantly wants to eat and wants to eat things that they shouldn't be eating you will need to constantly be on the lookout and be quick to react. Any prior experience of PICA or Autism will put you at an advantage. The child has very high levels of anxiety and can exhibit self harming behaviours in an attempt to control their environment. Staff need to support the child to understand waiting as this is something that they struggle with. Visual timetables help with the child's anxiety as well as clear boundaries and a consistent approach. We're looking for experienced staff who have worked with autism, eating disorders and challenging behaviour before. The child responds better to females and you will need to be able to quickly build rapport with them. We're looking for reliable and consistent staff who understand that routine and familiarity are important to the child's mental wellbeing. People who can commit to working with the child for a long period of time and can do regular shifts. The child attends a SEND school and has an EHCP plan, the child responds well to PECS. Shift patterns are 4-6pm on Wednesdays and 11am-6pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The child lives with their mother and an older sibling. The child enjoys positive reinforcement and loves active activities such as running, climbing, swimming, bowling and water play. You will need to be active as you will need to be able to keep up! The child also has sensory difficulties and benefits from deep pressure touch rather than light touch. We pay every week on a Friday, a week in arrears. Pay rates start at £10.40 an hour. Staff will need to be drivers and have business insurance on their car. You will need to have a valid DBS (enhanced child or enhanced child and adult) on the update service. Unfortunately we don't pay for them anymore; to get one through us will cost you £46. This is a great opportunity to work with very complex needs, if you have an interest in mental health get in touch and book in a registration meeting with myself. This is a temporary position. If you are interested, then please contact Charise Clarke at Axcis Education on 0117 373 6127.

This is a temporary position unless otherwise stated.

Please note: The details of this job are correct as of the start of the school closures. We anticipate that there will still be a need to fill this vacancy either on the expected timescale (as many of the schools we work with will remain open to support SEND/Keyworker children) or when schools re-open. We are therefore continuing to accept applications but please bear with us as there may be a delay on the listed start date due to the fact that the situation is continually evolving.

Axcis is an equal opportunities employer. The company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All staff will be subject to our stringent vetting procedures, which include an enhanced DBS, full work history, references and a face-to-face interview.

Axcis Education is an employment agency offering temporary supply work for daily, short-term and long-term assignments in addition to permanent positions.
