SEND Teaching Assistant – Special School – Tower Hamlets
£105–£120 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | ASAP Start
Axcis Education is recruiting an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist school in Tower Hamlets, supporting pupils with Autism, complex needs and significant communication difficulties.
This is a full-time, long-term role for someone who is comfortable working in a highly individualised SEND environment. Pupils may be non-verbal or minimally verbal, require sensory support and benefit from structured routines, visual communication and consistent adult support throughout the school day.
We are particularly interested in candidates who already have experience within a special school, ARP, specialist provision or high-needs SEND setting and understand that progress may be measured through communication, regulation, engagement and independence as much as traditional academic outcomes.
About the Role
Supporting pupils with Autism, complex needs and communication difficulties
Working with pupils who may be non-verbal or minimally verbal
Providing 1:1 and small-group support
Supporting highly differentiated and sensory-based learning
Using strategies such as PECS, visual timetables, core boards and Now & Next
Helping pupils manage transitions, routines and emotional regulation
Supporting individual EHCP and developmental targets
Encouraging communication, engagement and independence
Working closely with teachers, therapists and other SEND professionals
Supporting practical and functional learning activities
Assisting with personal care where required
About You
We would particularly like to hear from candidates who:
Have previous experience as a SEND TA, LSA or specialist support worker
Have worked with pupils with Autism and complex needs
Have previous special-school or high-needs SEND experience – strongly preferred
Are confident supporting non-verbal or minimally verbal pupils
Understand sensory needs and the importance of predictable routines
Have experience using PECS, Makaton, visuals or other communication strategies – desirable
Can remain calm and consistent when pupils become dysregulated
Are comfortable working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team
Are willing to support personal care where required
Can commit to a full-time, long-term position
A CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 qualification would be an advantage, although strong practical SEND experience is equally valuable.
The School & Location
The role is based within a specialist SEND school in Tower Hamlets, with good transport links from Stepney, Mile End, Whitechapel, Bow, Poplar and surrounding East London areas. This would be a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys working within specialist education and values the smaller but highly meaningful milestones that pupils can make over time.
