Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
SEND Learning Support Assistant – Mainstream Secondary – Dagenham
£100–£115 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | Start After October Half Term
Axcis Education is recruiting a confident and proactive SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a large mainstream secondary school in Dagenham, supporting students across KS3, KS4 and potentially Sixth Form.
The school has an established Student Development and SEND team, including a dedicated provision for students with Autism, alongside support for pupils with ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, speech and language needs and other barriers to learning. Most support takes place within mainstream lessons, with additional 1:1 and small-group intervention where appropriate.
This role would particularly suit someone who is confident working with teenagers and understands how to make learning more accessible without creating dependency. The school is looking for someone personable, switched-on and able to work collaboratively with subject teachers across a busy secondary environment.
About the Role
Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 within mainstream lessons
Working with pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia and additional learning needs
Supporting students within and alongside the school’s dedicated ASD provision
Providing a mixture of classroom, 1:1 and small-group support
Helping students access lessons across English, Maths, Science, Humanities and other curriculum subjects
Supporting pupils with organisation, focus, communication and independence
Delivering targeted interventions where required
Supporting students against EHCP outcomes and individual SEND targets
Working closely with subject teachers, SEND staff and the wider inclusion and pastoral team
Helping students become increasingly confident managing their own learning
About You
We would particularly like to hear from candidates who:
Have previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant, SEND TA or secondary support worker
Are confident supporting secondary-aged students
Have experience with Autism – particularly desirable
Have previous school-based SEND experience – strongly preferred
Can support students academically across a range of subjects
Understand when a pupil needs help and when they should be encouraged to work independently
Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries
Are proactive, reliable and confident working within a large school
Can commit to a full-time, long-term position
A CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 qualification would be an advantage, although relevant secondary SEND experience is more important.
The School & Location
The role is based within a large secondary school and Sixth Form in Dagenham, with a well-established SEND, inclusion and behaviour structure. The school supports pupils with SEND predominantly through the mainstream curriculum, alongside targeted intervention and a dedicated Autism provision. The school is easily accessible from Barking, Dagenham, Chadwell Heath, Romford and surrounding East London areas.
