A specialist school in Barnstaple, North Devon is seeking enthusiastic and caring SEND Teaching Assistant to join their experienced team supporting students with PMLD and Complex needs. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils aged 3 to 19 years with a range of complex needs, helping them to achieve their personal, social and educational goals in a highly supportive environment. About the School This specialist provision caters for pupils with: • Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) • Complex communication needs • Physical disabilities and medical needs With a strong focus on individualised learning, the school provides tailored support for every pupil and works closely with a range of specialist services The Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students throughout the school day, helping them access learning, develop communication skills and build independence. Your responsibilities may include: • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex SEND needs • Assisting students with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation • Supporting sensory activities and personalised learning programmes • Encouraging independence and participation in classroom activities • Working closely with teaching staff and therapists to implement individual support strategies • Supporting pupils with personal care where required • Creating a positive, safe and nurturing learning environment • Celebrating and promoting every student's achievements and progress We welcome applications from candidates who: • Have experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults • Are patient, empathetic and adaptable • Have an interest in SEND, Autism, PMLD or complex learning needs • Enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team • Can build strong relationships with pupils and staff • Are committed to providing outstanding support to children and young people Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Care Worker, Support Worker, Nursery Practitioner, Residential Support Worker or Healthcare Assistant would be beneficial but is not essential.
