Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Full-Time SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary School – Torbay
Location: Torbay, Devon
Start Date: September 2025
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:00pm (term time only)
Pay: £90 – £95 per day (depending on experience)
We are currently seeking an experienced and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Torbay. This full-time position is due to begin in September and is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and ADHD, some of whom may display challenging behaviour. Your role will be essential in helping students manage emotions, engage in learning and develop positive behaviours through a consistent, structured approach.
About the role:
Full-time, term-time only
Supporting children with SEMH and ADHD across Key Stages 1 and 2
Providing one-to-one and small group support
Implementing individual behaviour and learning plans
Working closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to monitor progress and strategies
Contributing to a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment
Requirements:
Experience supporting children with SEMH and/or behavioural needs in a school setting
Strong understanding of ADHD and behaviour management strategies
Confident, calm and able to de-escalate difficult situations effectively
Empathetic, patient and committed to helping children reach their full potential
Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented approach
A current DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one
