Hours: Monday to Friday, term-time only
Pay: £89–£195 per day
Role type: Full-time, long-term (with potential for permanent)
Are you someone who just gets young people – especially those who think and learn a little differently? Do you love the idea of helping students build confidence, independence, and skills for life? If so, you might be the perfect fit for a SEND Teaching Assistant role at a secondary SEND School in Exeter and we’d love to hear from you!
We’re Axcis Education – the UK’s leading SEND agency and we’re proud to be working with the school to find an amazing TA to join their team.
The SEND school is a brilliant specialist secondary school in Exeter for students with a range of additional needs, including:
Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
Autism
Speech, language, and communication needs
Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges
This is a small and friendly school where relationships matter. Staff work hard to create a calm, consistent and caring environment and they’re really good at helping young people succeed.
As a Teaching Assistant you'll:
Support students in class with their learning, communication and social skills
Offer 1:1 support where needed both academically and emotionally
Help create a calm and structured classroom environment
Encourage independence, life skills, and confidence-building
Join in with activities like cooking, outdoor learning, PE, and creative projects
Be a kind, steady presence, someone students can trust and rely on
You don’t need to be an expert but if you have experience supporting children or young people with SEND (in school, care, youth work, or similar), that’s a huge bonus.
What really matters is that you are:
Patient, calm and caring
A great communicator who builds rapport easily
Up for a challenge and not easily fazed
A team player who wants to learn and grow
Comfortable supporting children with autism, learning needs or behaviour challenges
