Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated SEM?(Spiritual, Emotional & Mental) Health Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional emotional and behavioural needs. Working alongside class teachers and senior staff, you will help create a safe, inclusive learning environment that promotes wellbeing and academic progress.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEMH challenges.
• Implement and monitor individual behaviour and coping strategies outlined in each pupil’s plan.
• Assist teachers in delivering differentiated lessons and adapting resources.
• Record observations and contribute to progress reports and review meetings.
• Foster positive relationships with pupils, families and external agencies.
• Participate in staff training, safeguarding duties and pastoral activities.
Essential Criteria
• Relevant experience supporting children with SEMH needs (e.g., previous TA, mentor, youth work).
• Understanding of UK SEN framework and safeguarding procedures.
• Strong communication, empathy and resilience.
• Ability to maintain calm under pressure and enforce clear boundaries.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths; further qualifications (e.g., Level?3 Teaching Assistant) are desirable.
