Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Sutton, London Contract: Full Time (8:30am - 4:00pm, Monday to Friday) Salary: Paid to scale We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant for a full-time position in Sutton, London. The successful candidate will provide essential support to pupils who are facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges, ensuring they can access education effectively and progress in their learning. Responsibilities: • Work collaboratively with the lead teacher to implement educational plans tailored to individual pupil needs. • Provide emotional support and guidance to pupils, fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment. • Utilize effective behaviour management strategies to promote positive behavior and engagement. • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and ensure that the classroom is well-organized for pupils. • Observe and record pupil progress, reporting any issues or achievements to the lead teacher. • Support the development of pupils' social skills through structured activities and positive reinforcement. • Liaise with other professionals, such as educational psychologists or counsellors, as appropriate. Requirements: • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs. • A patient and compassionate approach, with excellent communication skills. • Strong commitment to inclusive education and the safeguarding of children. • An understanding of confidentiality and data protection standards. • Relevant qualifications (such as NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
