Job Title: Primary SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Near Solihull
Pay Rate: £92.63 per day
Start Date: September
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (8:30am – 4:00pm)
Axcis Education is working with a specialist SEND school near Solihull to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support a well-established primary-age class of pupils with a range of complex medical and communication needs.
This rewarding role involves supporting children who are predominantly pre-verbal and use a variety of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) methods, including communication aids, visual supports, and symbols.
Many pupils are also sensory seekers and benefit from structured sensory activities and personalised support strategies throughout the school day.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in SEND, specialist education, care, healthcare support, autism support, or communication-focused roles.
The Role
• Supporting primary-aged pupils with complex SEND and medical needs.
• Assisting children who are pre-verbal and use communication aids to express their needs and participate in learning.
• Encouraging communication, engagement, and independence through tailored support.
• Supporting pupils with sensory processing differences and sensory-seeking behaviours.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence and wellbeing.
• Assisting with learning activities, personal development, and daily classroom routines.
• Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver individualised support plans.
• Creating a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements
• Previous experience working with children or young people.
• Experience supporting individuals with SEND, autism, complex needs, communication difficulties, or medical needs is desirable.
• A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• An understanding of alternative communication methods would be beneficial.
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Availability to work 8:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.
