Positive Behaviour Mentor – Full-Time Start Date: ASAP or September Salary: From £450 per week (term-time only) Contract Type: Full-time, term-time only Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with additional needs? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Positive Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist behaviour unit within a well-regarded special school in North Bristol. This is a unique opportunity to support students with complex social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a highly structured and nurturing environment. About the Setting This specialist school caters for children and young people aged 4–19 with a wide range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), severe learning difficulties, and SEMH profiles. The school is known for its strong emphasis on communication, emotional wellbeing, and positive relationships. Pupils are supported to build confidence, resilience, and independence – not just academically, but across all aspects of their development. Within the school, a small, dedicated unit provides intensive support for pupils who benefit from a low-arousal, highly structured approach to behaviour and emotional regulation. The team works closely with therapists, families, and education professionals to deliver bespoke, trauma-informed support rooted in empathy, consistency and care. About the Role This is an ideal position for psychology, education, or social science graduates seeking meaningful experience in a specialist education setting. As a Positive Behaviour Mentor, you will: Build therapeutic, trusting relationships with pupils who may experience high anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or behaviour that challenges. Work 1:1 or with small groups, supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom to access learning and feel safe. Implement restorative and reflective approaches to behaviour, helping pupils understand and manage their emotions. Contribute to the development and delivery of Individual Behaviour Plans and Risk Assessments. Support pupils in developing life skills, emotional resilience, and positive social connections. Liaise effectively with staff, families and external agencies to ensure consistent and holistic support. Take part in transition work and home visits alongside experienced colleagues to ease school transitions. What You’ll Gain This is a rewarding role offering real insight into specialist education and behaviour support. You will develop: Practical experience of supporting pupils with a range of complex SEND and SEMH needs. Skills in de-escalation, emotional regulation, trauma-informed care, and behaviour management. An understanding of alternative communication strategies and therapeutic approaches. A foundation in collaborative, multi-agency working across education, care, and health. The knowledge and experience to support further study or careers in teaching, social care, educational psychology, or behaviour support. Why Apply? Join a passionate, experienced team committed to inclusive education and pupil wellbeing. Be part of a setting that values empathy, connection, and professional growth. Access regular CPD and training opportunities, including Team Teach and mental health awareness. Benefit from strong leadership, robust support structures, and opportunities for long-term progression. Make a daily difference in a role that is as challenging as it is rewarding.
