Job Title: Special Needs Classroom Assistant
An established all-through special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) school in Reading is seeking a full-time teaching assistant to begin in September 2025. This position runs from 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, and may become permanent for a candidate who proves to be a strong long-term fit.
The role involves supporting pupils with a broad spectrum of needs, including autism, social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH), ADHD, Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and other complex needs. Flexibility is crucial, as you will be working across various key stages and learning environments.
The school offers a structured, person-centred educational approach, focusing on communication, routine and consistency. Applicants should have a minimum of three months' experience working with children or young people with SEND, ideally in an educational or care context. While a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification is welcomed, it is not a requirement. Candidates should be prepared to assist with personal care and tailor their approach to meet individual needs. A full driving licence is desirable due to occasional transport-related responsibilities.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is thoughtful, adaptable and committed to supporting the educational and personal development of pupils with additional needs.
