Job Overview:
Axcis Education is working in partnership with a specialist all-through school in Stratford to recruit a dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant to support children and young people aged 4–19 with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
This is a full-time, long-term role to start in September 2025, offering hands-on experience in a setting with a strong therapeutic and inclusive ethos. You’ll be working closely with pupils who have complex physical, cognitive, and medical needs, many of whom are non-verbal.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with PMLD in classroom and therapy-based sessions
Deliver and adapt sensory learning activities, including music, movement, and sensory play
Assist with personal care, including toileting, feeding, and changing (training provided)
Support the use of specialist equipment including wheelchairs, hoists, standing frames, and communication aids
Follow pupils' Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and therapy programmes
Communicate effectively using non-verbal methods such as Makaton, PECs, switches, or eye-gaze devices
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and medical staff to support holistic progress
Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and engagement

The Ideal Candidate Will:
Have previous experience supporting children or young adults with PMLD, complex needs, or medical requirements
Be comfortable with personal care duties and confident using mobility aids (training provided)
Have a calm, nurturing, and patient approach
Understand the importance of routine, sensory integration, and non-verbal communication
Be a team player, willing to learn from specialists and take direction
Hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service)
Desirable (but not essential):
Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or assistive technology
Manual handling or hoisting certification
Experience in care, respite, or nursing support
NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or Health and Social Care
