Axcis is working with an alternative provision in Exeter seeking a committed, resilient and caring Teaching Assistant to join their team supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is a rewarding role for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people who may have experienced trauma, disrupted education, or time in the care system. You will work 1:1 with primary and secondary-aged pupils, supporting both their education and wider development. Mornings: Supporting core subjects (English, Maths, etc.) alongside the class teacher, helping pupils re-engage with learning and fill gaps in their education. You must have minimum grade c in maths, and English Afternoons: Taking part in community-based activities and outreach programmes, designed to build confidence, reduce anxiety, and develop social and cooperation skills. The pupils you’ll support may be school refusers, care-experienced, or school leavers with gaps in learning. Behaviour can be challenging at times, but progress is incredibly rewarding.
