Hours: 30.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Are you passionate about supporting children with complex additional needs in a nurturing, therapeutic learning environment? A specialist SEND provision near Wedmore, Somerset is looking for a patient, reliable and enthusiastic Learning Support Worker to join a dedicated, multi-skilled team supporting pupils aged 7–16.
About the Role:
This unique and rewarding position involves supporting pupils who may face challenges related to social, emotional, and communication needs. Working both in the classroom and in creative learning settings—including outdoor spaces and animal-assisted sessions—you’ll help deliver personalised learning programmes and promote positive behaviour and wellbeing.
Working under the guidance of a Learning Centre Manager and teaching staff, you’ll play a key role in creating a safe, supportive and stimulating environment for learning and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide individualised support to pupils with SEND, including autism, SEMH, and sensory needs.
• Support learning in literacy, numeracy, and cross-curricular activities in a variety of settings.
• Encourage emotional regulation, social interaction, and independence.
• Help implement and review personalised learning and behaviour plans.
• Maintain pupil records, log incidents, and contribute to reviews using school systems.
• Assist with resource preparation, behaviour support and the upkeep of safe, creative environments.
• Work closely with staff, families, and external professionals to ensure consistent, joined-up support.
• Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the wellbeing of all pupils.
• Participate in planning, review meetings and training sessions as part of your ongoing development.
Who We’re Looking For:
• A compassionate and emotionally resilient person with a genuine interest in supporting vulnerable young people.
• Experience working with children or young people with additional needs (education or care settings).
• Excellent teamwork, communication and organisational skills.
• Confidence to work independently while following clear guidance and protocols.
• Minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
• A teaching assistant qualification or willingness to complete one is desirable.
• Strong IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and digital record-keeping.
• Willingness to work outdoors and alongside animals as part of the learning environment.
• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is required (travel between sites may be necessary).
