Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (SEND – Autism & Speech and Language)
About the Role
Axcis Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a SEND school team in Plymouth, supporting pupils with autism and speech, language and communication needs. This is a full-time role working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to help pupils access learning in a safe, structured and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism and speech and language needs
Support pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
Use visual supports and structured approaches to support learning and engagement
Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and therapists
Promote independence, confidence and positive relationships
Essential Requirements
Experience supporting children or young people with autism (in a school, care or similar setting)
A clear understanding of autism and associated communication needs
A patient, empathetic and consistent approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience using Makaton and/or PECS
Knowledge of speech and language support strategies
Previous experience in a SEND or specialist school setting

Pay: £90–£95 per day (dependent on experience)
