Job Title: Complex Needs TA
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant at an all-through special school in Reading. The school, known for its inclusive and nurturing environment, is looking for someone to join their team full-time, starting September 4th. With a commitment to celebrating the individuality of each pupil, the school serves students aged 4 to 19 who have a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD, profound learning difficulties, communication challenges and complex medical or behavioural needs. They focus on providing tailored support, creative solutions and exceptional care to every student. In this role, you will be a key part of the team, offering consistent support to pupils in and outside the classroom. Your day could involve helping a non-verbal child express themselves using visual aids or Makaton or working alongside a teenager who is struggling with emotional regulation. You’ll collaborate with teachers, therapists and other teaching assistants, ensuring that students receive the support they need to thrive academically, emotionally and personally. Your responsibilities will include working with pupils one-on-one or in small groups, adapting to a range of communication styles and needs. You will help deliver lessons in line with the goals outlined in each child’s EHCP. Additionally, you will provide personal care where needed, such as helping with toileting, mobility and feeding. You will also use positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation and encourage communication in its many forms, whether it’s spoken language, signs, symbols or gestures. Throughout the day, you will be a steady, reliable presence that students can rely on and trust. The ideal candidate will have at least three months’ experience supporting individuals with SEND, whether in education, care or youth work. You’ll need to remain calm and composed in the face of challenging behaviours and have the emotional resilience to handle difficult situations with a positive attitude. A genuine passion for helping others and a willingness to support personal care tasks are essential. You should also be able to commit to school hours from Monday to Friday. This is a full-time, long-term position where no two days will be the same, but every day will make a real impact. You’ll be joining a team of dedicated professionals who truly care about the students they support. You’ll gain invaluable experience, develop your skills and make a lasting difference in the lives of young people. If you're ready to be part of a team that makes a difference and help shape the future of exceptional young people, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and take the first step towards a rewarding career in SEND support.
