Make a Lasting Difference in Young People’s Lives
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the resilience, empathy, and patience to help pupils overcome barriers and thrive both emotionally and academically?
At Axcis Education, we work with dedicated individuals who want to make a genuine impact within specialist education settings. This Behaviour Mentor role offers the opportunity to support vulnerable pupils in a nurturing and highly rewarding environment where no two days are the same.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with SEMH needs and additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to engage positively with learning and school life.
Your responsibilities will include providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and additional needs such as Autism (ASC), supporting emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development, and building positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and resilience.
You will work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams to implement individual support strategies while helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and coping strategies both inside and outside the classroom. The role also involves supporting pupils during challenging moments using a calm, consistent, and therapeutic approach.
This is an incredibly rewarding role suited to someone who is patient, adaptable, and genuinely committed to helping young people succeed.
About the School/Setting
You’ll be working within a specialist, nurturing school environment in North Bristol, part of a well-established and respected multi-school group supporting children with complex needs.
The school offers a structured yet highly supportive approach, with a strong focus on emotional wellbeing, personalised learning, and therapeutic support. Staff benefit from a collaborative leadership team, ongoing training opportunities, and a welcoming, inclusive culture.
With a new site opening nearby, there are excellent opportunities for progression and long-term career development within the wider group.
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from you if you are passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND, particularly SEMH, and are patient, empathetic, and resilient. You should be a confident communicator who can build positive professional relationships, remain calm under pressure, and respond consistently to challenging behaviour.
Experience supporting children or young people with SEND/SEMH, whether paid, voluntary, or personal, is essential, alongside willingness to obtain or already hold an enhanced DBS.
Experience working with Autism (ASC) or challenging behaviour, Team Teach training, or relevant qualifications and experience linked to SEND, education, psychology, youth work, or care would be beneficial.
Why Join Axcis Education?
When you work with Axcis, you’re not just taking a job — you’re building a rewarding career within SEND education. We offer competitive pay rates paid weekly, access to free high-quality CPD through our partnership with The National College, ongoing support from a dedicated SEND consultant, opportunities for long-term and permanent positions, and valuable experience within specialist education settings.
