Job Title: Youth Mentor - Pupil Referral
Youth Mentor – Pupil Referral
Do you thrive on a challenge? Can you think on your feet and make a real difference?
If you're someone who’s passionate about supporting young people, especially those who’ve struggled in mainstream education, we want to hear from you. We're looking for a Youth Mentor to join a specialist Alternative Provision setting in Weston-super-Mare — where every day is different, and every interaction counts.
Why This School?
The setting supports young people aged 11–16 who require a more tailored, relational, and inclusive approach. The staff work hard to create an environment built on trust, engagement, and enjoyment.
Here’s what drives the school:
• Engagement – Helping students reconnect with learning in a way that works for them.
• Enjoyment – Because school should be somewhere students want to be.
• Relationships – Positive connections come first; learning follows.
The team is down-to-earth, experienced, and committed to making education work—no matter the obstacles.
What’s the Role Like?
This is not a desk job. You’ll be:
• Building relationships with students who have SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or mental health difficulties.
• Supporting in and out of class, providing 1:1 mentoring, emotional support, or guiding group sessions.
• Acting as a positive role model, helping young people build confidence, social skills, and resilience.
• Thinking on your feet—some days may involve de-escalating situations, others celebrating small but important wins.
Who Are We Looking For?
We’re open-minded about background—what matters most is your resilience, empathy, and genuine desire to help. You might be:
• From a youth work, sports coaching, policing, or support work background.
• Experienced in care, mentoring, or behavioural support.
• Looking to transition into education after working with young people in other settings.
Essentials:
• Minimum 3 months' experience working with children or young people (paid or voluntary).
• A calm, consistent presence who can build trust quickly.
• Willingness to support the school’s inclusive and trauma-informed ethos.
• DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply).
Why Work with Axcis Education?
Joining Axcis means you’re not alone—we’re with you all the way:
• Weekly pay—reliable and fast.
• Free and exclusive access to SEND training and CPD opportunities.
• A dedicated consultant who listens and supports your journey.
• Opportunities to make genuine impact every single day.
This is your chance to be more than just support—be a lifeline, a mentor, a role model. Apply today and take your first step towards a deeply rewarding role in education.
