Job Description:
Axcis Education is actively seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a thriving secondary school located in the heart of Manchester. Your role will be integral in supporting students with a variety of special educational needs, including ADHD and autism spectrum disorders, both verbal and non-verbal. As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support, ensuring that each student can access the curriculum and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the lead teacher to implement and adapt lesson plans that accommodate the individual needs of students, specifically those with ADHD and autism.
- Provide 1:1 or small group support to students, both inside and outside the classroom, to enhance their learning and social skills.
- Assist with the development of students' educational and behavioural management plans.
- Monitor and support students' progress academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Employ strategies to manage challenging behaviors in a positive and effective manner.
- Facilitate a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Help with the preparation of teaching materials, equipment, and resources as required.
- Collaborate with other staff members, therapists, and professionals involved in the wellbeing and education of the students.
- Play an active role in responding to and de-escalating crisis situations with the students' safety and security as a priority.
- Maintain accurate records on students’ progress and any incidents that occur.
Requirements:
- Proven secondary school experience, preferably as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
- Direct experience working with students with ADHD, autism, and those exhibiting challenging behaviors.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact positively with students, staff, and parents.
- A current DBS check on the update service is required.
- Calm and patient demeanor with the ability to handle students in crisis situations effectively.
- A collaborative spirit, willing to work as part of a team for the benefit of students’ education and welfare.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs and challenges of the school environment.
