A highly regarded primary school in Bournemouth is seeking an experienced and dedicated 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. The successful candidate will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with ASC and PDA, helping them access learning, develop confidence and achieve their full potential within a mainstream classroom. The school is looking for someone with previous SEND experience who understands the importance of consistency, relationship-building and adapting their approach to meet the individual needs of the child.
About the Role
As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with ASC and PDA throughout the school day
Build a positive, trusting relationship that promotes confidence, emotional wellbeing and independence
Support the pupil to access learning through personalised strategies and flexible approaches
Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCO and wider school team to deliver consistent support
Adapt classroom activities to meet individual learning needs
Use positive behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies to help the pupil engage successfully in school life
Support transitions, playtimes and other less structured parts of the school day
Monitor progress and contribute to regular reviews of the pupil's support plan
The Ideal Candidate
Previous experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant supporting pupils with ASC (essential)
Knowledge or experience of supporting pupils with PDA or a willingness to develop this area of practice
Calm, patient and resilient with excellent relationship-building skills
Confident supporting pupils with communication, sensory and emotional regulation needs
Able to work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents and external professionals
Passionate about helping children with SEND achieve positive outcomes
