Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEND School – Bournemouth
Full-Time | Immediate or September Start | SEMH, ASC, ADHD Focus
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking to make a difference in a specialist setting? Do you have the confidence, resilience, and compassion to support young people with complex needs, including challenging behaviour? If so, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a respected secondary SEND school in Bournemouth, supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), and ADHD.
We are currently seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated and passionate team. The role is available to start as soon as possible or in September, depending on your availability. You’ll play a key role in helping pupils aged 11–16, many of whom have experienced trauma, to re-engage with learning and work towards achieving their GCSEs.
This school is part of a wider academy trust, offering excellent opportunities for ongoing professional development (CPD), collaboration, and support. With a highly experienced and supportive Senior Leadership Team, you’ll be well-equipped to grow your skills and progress your career within SEND education.
What the role involves:
Supporting students in class, both 1:1 and in small groups
Assisting with behaviour regulation and classroom engagement
Helping pupils with academic work, particularly in English and Maths
Building strong, positive relationships with students based on trust and consistency
Supporting pupils who may have experienced trauma or disrupted schooling
Working closely with teachers, therapists and the wider school team to support pupil progress
We are looking for someone who:
Has prior experience working with young people with SEMH, ASC, ADHD, or in settings with challenging behaviour
Understands the impact of trauma and adverse childhood experiences on behaviour and learning
Can quickly build rapport and maintain consistent, positive relationships with pupils
Has a good standard of literacy and numeracy, ideally with at least GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Maths
Remains calm, flexible and solution-focused under pressure
Is a committed team player who wants to make a real impact on young lives
In return, you’ll be joining a school where every day brings new challenges and rewards, and where the progress made by pupils – both academically and emotionally – is genuinely life-changing.
Location: Bournemouth
Start Date: ASAP or September 2025
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Salary: Dependent on experience (within TA scale)
If you’re looking for a purposeful and fulfilling role in education, and you’re ready to support pupils with some of the most complex needs, we’d love to hear from you.
