Axcis is working with a fantastic mainstream secondary school in Glastonbury to recruit a 1:1 teaching assistant working with a child with Aspergers. The school has a very friendly atmosphere and a supportive environment, and is well liked by all staff we have sent to them in the past. It's a supportive vibrant school where students thrive and come to learn.
This position is one to one support for a child with Aspergers, the job is five days a week 8:30-3:30pm and is for the next six weeks. You will be a role model, mentor and daily support to the child you will be working with and will need to be able to quickly build rapport with them. The child has limited communication and experience with Makaton and/or PECS would be advantageous but not essential for this post.
You will need to be adaptable, flexible and you must have an understanding of working with young people with special educational needs and disabilities and have a real desire to make a difference. As sponsors of the National Autistic Society and other notable SEND organisations, Axcis takes it duty of care to the profession seriously and we do our best to find only the best staff for the schools we work with. Many of our consultants are ex-teachers or support staff with SEND experience, giving Axcis unparalleled knowledge of the sector.

This is a temporary position unless otherwise stated.
Please note: The details of this job are correct as of the start of the school closures. We anticipate that there will still be a need to fill this vacancy either on the expected timescale (as many of the schools we work with will remain open to support SEND/Keyworker children) or when schools re-open. We are therefore continuing to accept applications but please bear with us as there may be a delay on the listed start date due to the fact that the situation is continually evolving.
